Celebrity DJ Beverly Bond enlisted an army of the most accomplished and aspiring entertainers to acknowledge achievements in females of color at the 2nd Annual Black Girls Rock! Awards and gala.

Co-hosted by actresses Gabrielle Union and Regina King, this year’s honorees include Essence magazine Editorial Director Susan L. Taylor (”Social Humanitarian Award”), Rutgers University Women’s Basketball Team (”Monument Award”), Universal/Motown President Silvia Rhone (”Corporate Award”) and Missy Elliott (”Creative Visionary Award”), among others.

We are proud and humbled to have such strong, beautiful and powerful women involved with this event,” said Bond, founder and president of BGR! “In light of the media’s constant focus on the negative depiction of Black women it is so very important that Black Girls Rock! takes the time to shine a much needed light on our Sheroes.”

CoverGirl spokesmodel Rihanna, R&B singer Mario, poet and artist Danny Simmons, MC Lyte, Ashanti, and Bad Boy recording artist Cassie will be on hand as presenters. Award recipients Chrisette Michele (”CoverGirl Queen Who Got Next Award”) and Marsha Ambrosius (”Soul Sista Award’) are slated to perform alongside country music star Rissi Palmer, Jean Baylor formerly of the R&B duo Zhane, and J Records newcomer Emily King.

The 2nd Annual Black Girls Rock! Awards presented by VH1’s Hip Hop Honors Weekend will be held on Saturday (October 6) at the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.
